主催者ごあいさつ｜From gallery
- 絵画とは像を画材、マチエールによって表現していく手法ですが、マチエールが像と矛盾する方法、像を引き裂くような方法で使われていたらどうなるでしょうか。それは絵画なのか、それともそうでないのか。下村の作品は、そうしたシンプルではありますが根底的な問いの上に成り立っています。若き俊英による絵画による絵画論、どうぞごゆっくりお楽しみいただけましたら幸いです。
Painting is a technique that expresses a image by matiere, but what happens if the matiere is used in a way that contradicts or tear the image? Is it a painting or not? Shimomura's work is based on such simple but radical questions. I wish you will enjoy this young artist's "painting theory by paintings".
作家ステートメント｜Statment- 《#》は、キャラクターへの愛情表現の裏に暴力性を感じてしまうといった自身のアンビバレントな感情と、他の作品シリーズにも通ずる、現代のメディア環境が作る新たな欲望や、アイデンティティの問題を表現しています。 そして、私は作品が、バーチャルキャラクターにみられるデジタルの非物質性、非身体性がもたらす、「やり直しがきく存在」としてポジティブにあらわれることを目指そうとしています。
The "#" represents my ambivalent feelings, where behind the expression of affection towards characters, I also sense a hint of violence. It reflects the new desires and identity issues created by the contemporary media environment, which are common across other series as well. Furthermore, my aim is to portray the positive aspect of the work as a "undoable existance," showcasing the digital intangibility and non-physical nature observed in virtual characters.
